Algeria is recalling its ambassador in Rabat

Algeria is recalling its ambassador in Rabat for consultations, with immediate effect.

This, following the distribution by the Moroccan diplomatic representation in New York of an official note to the member countries of the non-aligned movement in which the Kingdom “publicly and explicitly supports the right to self-determination of the Kabyle people”, indicates the Algerian Foreign Minister.

The Kabyle people, who are also known as Izwawen, Leqbayel, and Iqbayliyen, are an Amazigh/Berber ethnic group, the largest Amazigh group in Algeria, and second largest in North Africa. They are indigenous to Kabylia in the North of Algeria and spread across the Atlas mountains; since the “Berber Spring of 1980” they had been fighting for the recognition of the Kabyle language, as well as other Amazigh languages, in Algeria.

Algeria does not understand how the Kingdom has been outraged by Algerian provocations for years. Algiers arms, finances, defends and shelters a terrorist and separatist movement (Polisario) which leads an armed fight against Morocco.
