Booby trap explosion kills five soldiers in Burkina Faso – Military Authority

Burkina Faso Military High Command on Wednesday, said a planted mine have exploded and killed five soldiers on patrol in northern part of the country.

The ugly incident which occurred at about 3:00 pm local time when the soldiers were engaged in reconnaissance close to the Mentao town.

One of the patrol vehicles in the military convoy detonated the explosive device.

“The provisional toll is five soldiers killed and one other wounded,” the statement added.

Both military ground and air reinforcements had been sent to evacuate the remains of the victims and thoroughly search the affected area.

This is the most recent in incessant attacks generally linked to jihadists operating in the region.

Islamic extremists in neighboring Mali spilt over into Burkina in 2015.

The terrorist groups are linked to Al-Qaeda and Islamic State.

Over 1,500 individuals have died in the raids, which have forced no fewer than 1.4 million people to run away from their various homes since 2015.

Most of the attacks happened in the northern and eastern parts of the country, near the boundary with Mali and Niger. Almost all African countries are facing different security challenges, especially Islamic terrorism.
