Bandits swoop Sokoto community, killing nine, kidnap six

Armed men suspected to be bandits killed nine persons and abducted six others in the Goronyo Local Government Area Council of Sokoto State on Saturday.

According to reports from the affected communities, among those killed by the bandits were eight men and one woman.

The villages attacked by the suspected bandits were Bejingo, Dantudu and Tulutu, all in Birjin ward.

Also, the bandits carted away herds of cattle belonging to the local residents.

It was gathered that the deceased had been buried according to Islamic religion.

The burial was reportedly witnessed by political stalwarts from the area, including the council chairman, Alhaji Abdulwahab Goronyo; the state Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Bashir Gorau; a member of the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Ahmed Rimawa; and the District Head of Durumbi, Alhaji Durumbi Abdullahi.

The Police Public Relations Officer Sokoto State Command, ASP Sanusi Abubakar, said the command were yet to receive a full report on the unfortunate attacks.
